Organo-arsenic Complexation Studies Explaining the Reduction of Uptake of Arsenic in Wheat Grown with Contaminated Irrigation Water and Organic Amendments

چکیده

Application of organics in soil can reduce uptake arsenic (As) food crops grown on spiked with As. However, the results may be different if crop is As-contaminated irrigation water. In this study, a modest initiative has been undertaken to assess organo-arsenic equilibria using fulvic and humic extracted from paddy husk (PH), vermicompost (VC), soil. The acids were found polyprotic nature. Fulvic acid have highest mole ratio or combining ability 1.88 ± 0.59 stability constant (log K) 8.96 0.21. Based above findings, greenhouse experiment wheat was conducted concentrations As water (1, 2, 4, 8 mg L?1), irrigated 5 times throughout growth period 3 levels amendments (No amendment, VC PH @ 10 t ha?1 each). Paddy also effectively used as an amendment trim down bioavailability grain provided content < 2 L?1. Risk assessment soils carried out expressed hazard quotient per USEPA guideline. Solubility free ion activity model forecast transfer grain.

Accumulation of Arsenic in Rice Plant from Arsenic Contaminated Irrigation Water and Effect on Nutrient Content

For Bangladesh, the requirement for food is very high due to its huge population. To achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production, the HYV rice varieties are widely produced in Bangladesh, particularly in the dry season, and this requires a large volume of groundwater irrigation. Groundwater of many areas of our country is severely contaminated with arsenic. So, there is a possibility of a...

Effects of plant arsenic uptake and heavy metals on arsenic distribution in an arsenic-contaminated soil.

This study examined the effects of heavy metals and plant arsenic uptake on soil arsenic distribution. Chemical fractionation of an arsenic-contaminated soil spiked with 50 or 200mg kg(-1) Ni, Zn, Cd or Pb was performed before and after growing the arsenic hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata L for 8weeks using NH(4)Cl (water-soluble plus exchangeable, WE-As), NH(4)F (Al-As), NaOH (Fe-As), and H(2)S...

Arsenic uptake by arbuscular mycorrhizal maize (Zea mays L.) grown in an arsenic-contaminated soil with added phosphorus.

The effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus (Glomus mosseae) and phosphorus (P) addition (100 mg/kg soil) on arsenic (As) uptake by maize plants (Zea mays L.) from an As-contaminated soil were examined in a glasshouse experiment. Non-mycorrhizal and zero-P addition controls were included. Plant biomass and concentrations and uptake of As, P, and other nutrients, AM colonization, root leng...

Effects of calcium peroxide on arsenic uptake by celery (Apium graveolens L.) grown in arsenic contaminated soil.

The ability of calcium peroxide (CaO(2)) to immobilize As of contaminated soil was studied using pot and field experiments. In pot experiment, CaO(2) applied at 2.5 and 5 g kg(-1) significantly increased celery shoot weight and decreased shoot As accumulation, which was ascribed to the formation of stable crystalline Fe and Al oxides bound As and the reduction of labile As fractions in the soil...
